Spring Training 2017

We finally said goodbye to AJ's bigass truck. I'll miss that thing, but it really was veryyyyy impractical on our end. Our friends loved having access to that truck for moving purposes and AJ driving all the golfers out with the clubs in the back, but otherwise we went off-roading twice and that was the extent of us really using it. So it's sold, and this weekend we went out to Arizona to pick up a new car that AJ bought, accompanied by some friends.

Before that, I had drinks after work on Friday with coworkers for one of their's last day... moving to Europe! Oh, the jealousy.

We're four little peas in a pod and it's so sad to watch us start dispersing!

On Saturday morning, AJ's mom came over to pick up Anana and drop us all off at the airport. We had an easy breezy 10am flight to Phoenix. We landed and went straight to the dealership where AJ picked up his Mazda CX-5 (I think? I confuse them) but man am I stoked I got him on the Mazda train. So sick of American cars. His truck (a Dodge) had the check engine light come on maybe 6-7 times in the time that I've known him alone (good thing for the extended warranty on that one!) ughhhhh why do they suck so much. Anyway, no more of that!

Our plan was to go straight to the Dodgers Spring Training game, because it was the closest, but it was completely sold out. We tailgated a little and tried to go to the lawn but no success. So we tried to get tickets to the Angels, but they were playing the Diamondbacks and also sold out. So then we went to Scottsdale to try to see the Giants but it was an insane mess (no real parking!) and we were over it by that point. I hate to be "this" person, but I went to Spring Training back in 2009 or 2010 and it was NOT LIKE THIS. Tickets are now insanely expensive and the place is overrun by people. It's such a "thing" now that it's become such a headache!

Anyway we got lunch in downtown Scottsdale and then picked up drinks and checked in at the hotel. We took a nap, and then watched March Madness and then went and hung out by the sweet pool along the lake.

In the evening we decided to try TopGolf, and it was insanely busy and quoted us a 3 hour wait, so we put in our name and went to the nearby Talking Stick casino for blackjack, and I ended up $5 yahoo! Then we went to TopGolf.

This whole concept is weird to me as something with mass appeal, because golf is a very specific and very acquired skill, and who wants to go just "try" to hit a golf ball freaking far to make the targets?? I say this from my point of view because I can't recall ever having swung a golf club in my life, but the three I was with are avid golfers, so I tagged along. I later discovered this video was taken - and ignore my golf swing lololol but I think I once made it to the green target?

On Sunday we had much better luck with our lives. First we went and got brunch down near the Arizona State campus and then got lawn seats to the Angels/Royals games at the Angels' Tempe stadium.

My favorite Angel! Cameron Maybin #9!

And then we had to leave to come home. The drive was pretty long but we had Arcade Fire and then some standup comedy to listen to (including a new Daniel Tosh) and made it home around 10:30pm pretty exhausted. I'm just excited AJ can now park in the driveway and we don't have to play musical cars every time I come home and/or want to leave!

Pictures that did zero justice to the beautiful desert sunset

Khaleesi was happy to have us back, and I got to go to bed with the little kitty!
