Fourth of July Weekend

Woof, we survived this weekend! I was dreading it a little bit because four days straight at home with the little Bee with not much on the calendar (by design) was a tall order. I really need to start bringing our calendar down a notch because I am getting, slow, heavy, and in pain, and can't do too much, but also can't just sit in the living room or bedroom all day like I want, so I was worried, but we survived it pretty well.

Saturday and Sunday were open, but mostly earmarked for getting stuff done around the house, so there was a trip to IKEA and Sophie was happy to help us get our projects done, bike riding and a trip to the pool.

Then on Monday we braved the crowds and went to California Adventure and got to spend time with Gangy and Grandpa Jim and AJ's LA Canadian friends who have a girl about half a year younger than Sophie. It was a hot day, and crowded, but overall wasn't as bad as I expected. We hung out in the parking lot for awhile while Sophie napped and then once we were at the park gates going through security and that's when we realized we forgot to take the pocket knife off our keys so AJ had to run it back and I went in with Sophie and we got Ghiradelli ice cream from the most unpleasant, unamused cast member with Gangy and Grandpa Jim.

AJ finally made it in and we went and met our friends at the Little Mermaid ride to all ride together. I was nervous because Sophie is really aware of everything now and there is an intimidating Ursula scene, and she seemed a little uncomfortable but hung in there (and continued to ask to go back on the mermaid ride and ride in the seashell, which we did do again, so I think she got over it!)

After that we went to Turtle Talk with Crush which was super cute and Sophie was into, and I was going to ask what he thought we should name this second kid but he didn't call on me! #Rude

Waiting to go into Turtle Talk

We went to the corner at the end of Pixar Pier (not even sure what that area is called) for AJ and his friends to get drinks, (and he brought back a cream cheese pretzel mmmmm) and there was a live band and the girls were stoked to run around and dance, so we hung out there for awhile. When I took Sophie to the bathroom we passed by the Encanto house and she was so stoked on it, and there was a lot of room for her to run around, and that's pretty much all she wanted to do!

We went around Pixar Pier and got treats and rode the carousel and tried to ride the ferris wheel but missed it. We went to Avengers Campus to hang out and found another place where Sophie was content to just... run around yet again lol.

We went to Redwood Creek for her to play on the playground but we didn't know it closed 5 minutes after we got there so that was a bit of a bummer, but she enjoyed the slide and the tunnel at least.

It was getting dark and we bought her a balloon since she couldn't stop talking about it, and then we jumped on the trolley car. At some point someone in the trolley with us mentioned they saw Mickey Mouse and the way Sophie perked up and strained to look for him was just so darn cute. We got off at the second stop to go find Mickey for her. She didn't want to get close but she was so interested to see and watch him, and then we got to see Minnie on our way out too. She was asking about Daisy and Donald and Goofy but we had to tell her that they already went to sleep.

She didn't fall asleep the whole drive home which was crazy cause it was like 10p but she crashed pretty quickly once she was in her jammies and in bed.

Our tradition for the 4th is a block party at our friends's house but they all came down with crazy cases of covid after getting back from Mexico for our family vacation, so that was off. It ended up being really nice to hang out at home though after our California Adventure.

AJ went and played basketball, then some of his friends came over afterwards and they BBQ'd and Sophie rode her bike around the driveway and then she and I put on bathing suits and played with her water table in the front yard.

One of these is apple juice and one of
these is orange juice! Ahhhh!

We had a lot of fun but she also didn't take a nap, so that's how she ended up like this way too early

I let her have a small power nap but then woke her up. I couldn't let her go one more day without a bath considering how greasy her hair was, and plus we had fireworks... and boy was that a ruckus waking her up. We managed to get her bathed, and ready for bed, and then she was interested to see fireworks. We did some sparklers and she was into it for a little while, then AJ wanted to show her the "low key" firework he bought that we could just watch and it was fun until the end when it was cracking and popping so loud and so far we all kinda screamed and had to get out of the way and Sophie was thoroughly upset and officially ready for bed.

She went down easy which was great, cause then AJ and I got to play with the sparklers in the front yard by ourselves.

We hung out in the garage and watched the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest and then went inside to finish the day off with one of our absolute favorite movies: Airplane! (That exclamation point is part of the title, that's not me overusing them as always).

Even though we're back to work today and a "normal" day, Sophie slept way in which means we all got to sleep way in which means it was kind of a nice transition back into the week.
